Neuschwanstein from every angle...

In the Fall of 1999 Bill took me on my first trip to Europe. While in the Bavarian region of southern Germany we visited the Neuschwanstein Castle. Here are just two of about 50 or more pictures we took around the castle. I think Kodak put something in the air, because we couldn't stop snapping pix!

These two were taken high above the castle after we hiked up the path behind it and went beyond the bridge, out of bounds, past the barbed wire, and damn near over the edge of the cliff!!!

Anyway, the weekend we got engaged (February 28th, 2001), we happened to stumble upon the Kaltenberg Castle in Vail. The main dining hall is modeled after the Musician's Hall from the Neuschwanstein Castle. We both really loved our trips to Europe and the Bavarian atmosphere – we've been to Oktoberfest in Munich two years in a row – so it felt natural to consider the breathtaking beauty of Vail and the Kaltenberg rooms for the reception.

For more pictures of the castle as well as a bit about our trip to Europe, check this out! Better yet, CHECK THIS OUT!!!

Kaltenberg

Reception Site
The name Kaltenberg is said, originally, to have meant "Celtic Hill" and there is mention of it, as a place, in 1179 in Church records. The building itself was first mentioned in Apian`s "Topographia Bavariae" as an old fortification (Burg) built by Duke Rudolph in 1292.

Amazingly, the world also owes Oktoberfest to the Royal Bavarian family. It begun as a public celebration of the wedding of the young Crown Prince who later became King Ludwig I and was such a success that it has been continued every year since.
